| Organizers announce dates for WinterPRIDE ’08
The buzz around WinterPRIDE 2008, Whistler's gay ski week, is already starting to heat up and the dates for the annual celebration have just been announced. Gay and lesbian travellers from all over the world are already starting to plan their trips to Whistler for the action-packed week of on- and off-hill activities coming up Feb. 3 to 10, 2008. "The event is clearly back on the rise as one of the leading independent festival events in Whistler," said Sean Kearns, president of Alpenglow Productions, the parent company of GayWhistler. Next year's celebration of diversity is ramping up to include even more ski programming, big name entertainment including a return of Cirque du Soleil performers, and the largest expected attendance in the 16-year history of Whistler's gay ski week.
Plan in works for Sea-to-Sky disruptions
Vancouver 2010 organizers will soon start planning how to deal with unforeseen closures to the Sea-to-Sky Highway during the Olympics. "Clearly, the organizing committee will have to be prepared to deal rapidly with things that possibly could happen," 2010 CEO John Furlong said yesterday. He was responding to questions about what steps would be taken in the event of traffic accidents or rock slides, which frequently block the only road to Whistler venues. .
